Why does everyone hate Opie?

As RSS-fave
Andrew Sullivan notes, The Da Vinci Code is uniting people of all religions to put down their differences and together decry the work of Ron Howard. Via BBC News:

"One Roman Catholic activist has gone on what he says is a 'hunger strike until death' unless the film is banned."
The Catholic Church: now apparently okay with suicide (but still against condoms for married people, naturally). Please scrawl updates into your Bible's margins accordingly.

In a related story, I am going on a hunger strike until death unless the Oscar for A Beautiful Mind is retracted.

Hungry fundamentalists of all faiths, take heed: The Da Vinci Code, starring the girl from Amelie and the guy from Bosom Buddies, hits theaters on Friday. The early reports: it kind of blows. Too bad for Richie Cunningham; people tend to forget how outraged they were about a film's release if it turns out to be really good.

please comment. it makes me look popular.
